UK passport photo (digital)
For a UK passport applied for online, gov.uk asks for a digital photo at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall, between 50 KB and 10 MB. It gives no maximum dimensions and no exact ratio.
The minimum is portrait, so the tool refuses a landscape photo rather than sending it sideways or cropping it to a ratio gov.uk didn’t give. A portrait photo is kept uncropped, capped at 4096 pixels on the long side, and saved at the highest JPEG quality under 10 MB.

This fixes the file — size, shape and format. It doesn’t check the photo itself (background, lighting, expression, glasses), which the portal also has rules for.
